Two congresses, one common thread

Two congresses, one common thread

On 18 June, KHM/CMPR held its Colloque de formation continue in Lausanne, bringing together hundreds of French-speaking GPs for a day of science, exchange, and continuing education. Among the highlights: Jelena Dunaiceva received the research prize for her work asking whether Swiss family physicians prescribe antibiotics in line with national recommendations. The short answer, visible in the data she presented: there is real room to improve.

Nearly one in five prescriptions falls outside recommendations, and second-line antibiotics are prescribed more often than first-line ones in almost all indications.

On 25 and 26 June, the KHM-Kongress took place at the KKL in Lucerne. Lucerne being Lucerne, the lake and the mountains provided a backdrop that made even the breaks between sessions worth stepping outside for.

ASAP was present at both. Our role was simple: to make sure that the tools developed by our colleagues around the country are visible and accessible to the people who need them most. From BIHAM Berner Institut für Hausarztmedizin's shared decision-making aids, which help GPs have honest conversations with their patients about what antibiotics can and cannot do, to the communication materials developed by the Bundesamt für Gesundheit BAG and freely available to any practice that wants them.

These two events were a reminder of why field presence matters. We heard directly from GPs about the pressures they face, the expectations from patients, and the complexity of the consultation room. That context shapes everything we do.
