Local Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) rates serve as an additional indicator to complement data on antibiotic use. CDI can often be attributed to the use of antibiotics in combination with risk factors, as well as to transmission within hospitals.

Ensure that CDI surveillance is user-friendly and actually gets used

Ensure that the ASP and the IPC have a joint procedure for investigating increasing or high CDI rates. This should involve investigating in-hospital transmission, prescribing practices and other causes. Furthermore, recommendations for the prevention of CDI should be formulated and communicated to the relevant groups (heads of clinical departments and relevant committees).
