2nd ASAP Symposium – Urinary Tract Infections in Swiss Outpatient Care

2nd ASAP Symposium – Urinary Tract Infections in Swiss Outpatient Care

Part 1 – Catherine Plüss-Suard on antibiotic prescribing for UTIs: what has changed during the past years, and why it matters.

The data from the Sentinella network show that UTIs account for roughly a quarter of all antibiotic prescriptions in ambulatory care in Switzerland.

The good news? Prescribing is largely concordant with guidelines, and the shift away from fluoroquinolones toward nitrofurantoin over the past two decades is real and measurable.

But resistance doesn't unwind as quickly as prescribing does.

Part 2 – Andreas Nadig (replacing Andreas Plate, PD Dr. med., PhD) on what we still don't know: a qualitative study exploring how UTIs are actually managed across GP practices and community pharmacies in Switzerland.

GPs and pharmacies are not operating in isolation, yet there is often no communication between them. Patients move between both settings, and what happens in each remains largely invisible to the other.

The study is still underway, with patient interviews yet to come. Follow ASAP to hear what they find.
